Like we’re really colonized. The majority doesn’t know how to express themselves without being oppressive linguistically. Cause you know if we speak some off the books shit it’s going to be called trashy and vulgar, instead of novel and beautiful. Which is like the basic history of AAVE (African American Vernacular English).
For example people who speak Spanish and people who speak English call Spanglish an abomination. However to truly speak Spanglish you actually have to be fluent in both languages and use two grammars in your head and create a system where the two don’t collide in their grammar, that’s how we code switch. That’s crazy and it will always happen because that’s how every modern language in the world was born. What do we get for this cognitive wonder? Remedial ESL classes.
Why do we have to learn English, Spanish, French and Chinese? For money and capital. My heart breaks a little for every Korean who apologizes for not speaking good English to me, I’m like “it’s cool bb it’s actually your country you don’t have to pander to my gringo ass.”
